Written by Heather McDade | 25-Mar-2020 12:41:31

There is much worry and uncertainty surrounding how quarantine measures will affect jobs and economy’s. Even in our hyperconnected world there are a lot of people who don’t have much experience working from home and may be floundering a little. Here are a few quick tips to help you focus and get through your tasks.

Blocking Out The Distractions

Easier said than done with noisy neighbours, barking dogs, and a myriad of other potential disturbances. Music is often the first choice to block out distractions and help you to concentrate, however you may be spending far too much time trying to find the ‘right’ playlist. You probably know that classical music can help with concentration and learning, but this genre may not be the right fit for you. Luckily there is another type of music designed to help you focus on your tasks without causing distraction - video game soundtracks! Video game music is composed with a purpose - to help you focus on your task without being distracted by a cacophony of sounds or lyrics.

Here are a few game soundtrack suggestions:

  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Borderlands
  • Final Fantasy
  • Halo
  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Legend of Zelda
  • Skyrim
  • The Elder Scrolls

My personal favourite at the moment is the Game of Thrones Soundtrack (Yip, its safe for work, unlike the series). 😉

Quick Guide To Managing Tasks

In first aid, ABC stands for airways, breathing, and circulation and are some of the first steps that emergency personal take to assess the condition of a patient. To prevent your projects from flatlining try our ABC (and W’s) suggestions on how to successfully manage tasks from start to finish. However you and your team choose to complete tasks, remember to take care of your data. Store centrally, name clearly, and preferably ensure that there are cloud-based backups available so that if you or your team fall ill work can continue and you can heal without additional stress. As quarantine measures begin to relax and we begin returning to work we don’t want to spend the next several months sorting through a jumble of data that has been shared and stored across systems, devices, and methods.

Looking For Virtual Collaboration Tools?

Currently, Microsoft and Google are offering their enterprise-level conferencing tools, Teams and G Suite Hangouts Meet, respectively, for free for a limited time. Having the appropriate applications in place to conduct virtual meetings, manage remote collaboration encourages employees to feel connected and helps to keep projects on track. As Microsoft Partners, we at FlowCentric Technologies have been taking full advantage of the Office 365 and Visual Studio collaborative features, and are in the fortunate position to have a fantastic IT Team who made sure we were ready for remote work way before it became an essential requirement.
