Pelagic Marine Services uses the FlowCentric Processware BPM Platform to tightly manage barge deliveries to Rottnest Island, a protected nature reserve located 19 kilometres off the coast of Perth, in Western Australia.
The Rottnest Barge Service, which is owned and operated by Pelagic Marine Services, has transported nearly all of the freight used for construction on the island, including the trucks and construction equipment. Rottnest Island is popular tourist location, which is visited by thousands of sightseers annually.
“In addition to construction materials, Rottnest Barge Service transports food, linen for the hotels and other consumables to Rottnest Island,” explained Martie du Plessis, Business Development Manager at FlowCentric Technologies Australia.
“The logistics associated with such diverse and frequent deliveries are complex and fraught with legislative requirements, which is precisely the environment in which FlowCentric Technologies is able to offer value.”
Pelagic Marine Services first engaged with FlowCentric Technologies in November 2015 with the goal of digitising and automating its existing deliveries process for greater efficiency. The deliveries application built on the FlowCentric Processware platform allows Pelagic Marine Services to centrally manage barge deliveries, including:
- Receipt of deliveries from third-party suppliers for their customers;
- Printing barcodes;
- Geofencing deliveries;
- Processing cash sales through a secure payment gateway; and
- Invoicing customers for the deliveries.
The solution also includes an iOS tablet application to handle deliveries and the vessel logs on the go. The application has been specifically designed with usability in mind, enabling the operator to receive deliveries quickly and efficiently. The vessel log ensures that all legislative requirements are adhered to, and all weather and other conditions are accurately recorded.
Since 2015, Pelagic Marine Services and FlowCentric Technologies have developed a billing system, a freight booking calendar, a bar coded labelling system, and a Web portal for goods tracking, which has given extra structure to their operations and simplified access to data.
On the journey to digital transformation, Pelagic Marine Services continues to improve on existing processes and adds new automated process applications to their FlowCentric Processware implementation every year.
